Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was written by Roald Dahl. The book was very popular and considered as children’s classic. It was published in 1964 and adapted into motion picture twice.
Roald Dahl was a British novelist, and a short story writer. He was very famous and has been referred to as “one of the greatest storyteller for children of 20th century”. Roald was born in 1916 and died in 1990. He even served in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. Dahl’s short stories are known for their unexpected endings. He wrote a lot of children’s fiction including ‘Matilda’, ‘James and the Giant Peach’, ‘The Witches’ and etc. And they are loved by children all over the world.
The book’s plot was a 11-year old boy named Charlie Bucket lived in a tiny house with his parents and four grandparents near Mr. Wonka’s chocolate factory. The family was poor and only once a year, on his birthday, Charlie could have a chance to taste a little bit of Wonka’s chocolate, it’s just like sliver and gold to him. The factory wasn’t opened for a long time. But one day, Willy Wonka, the owner of the chocolate factory decided to let five lucky children and their parents to visit his chocolate factory. He prepared five golden tickets and hid them in the wrappers of his Wonka chocolate bars. A few days later, four tickets were found by four lucky children. They were Augustus Gloop, Veruca Salt , Violet Beauregarde and Mike Teavee. One day, Charlie bought two bars of chocolate using the fifty-pence coin he has found in the street. Then he got the last golden ticket in the second bar of chocolate before the date Mr. Wonka has set for his guests to enter the factory. Grandpa Joe was very excited and decided to go into the factory with Charlie.
In the factory, Charlie and Granpa Joe met humorous Willy Wonka and saw so many exciting, interesting and surprising inventions that Mr. Wonka had made! At last, the other four children were eliminated from the factory in comical, mysterial and painful ways and Charlie won. For award, Mr.Wonka gave the chocolate factory to Charlie and named Charlie his successor.
The book was very attractive. Especially the chocolate factory is very magical. The river and waterfall were made by hot chocolate. The trees were made by candy. The boat on the chocolate river was made by toffees……In the factory everything could be snacks.
Although the story was funny, it was thought-provoking too. There are four lessons we have learned from the book. Firstly, it’s important to gain trust by respecting others. Charlie and his grandpa went into the factory and he didn’t touch any machine in the factory, so he was trusted at last by Willy Wonka. Secondly, we must remain alert in daily life and beware of strangers who try to tempt us. The other four children were ejected from factory because they could not resist temptation. And we shouldn’t be too greedy, or maybe we’ll make ourselves in trouble like the other four children. Thirdly, we should also be kind and friendly to others like Charlie. Then perhaps the other people will give us help in the future, too. Fourthly, we must follow the rules in public places. We can explore boldly, but only if it’s in the right place. Otherwise, the consequences are unimaginable.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is such a great book! If you are interested in it, you can read it by yourselves. It is a real magical world!
